Greenwood Academy, Castle Vale.
Site Address: Rolls-Royce Controls, York Road, Hall Green, Birmingham.
Construction of Buildings: The site consisted of a former Rolls-Royce 2 storey manufacturing building, 42 porta-cabin offices which were adjacent to a live railway line and a single storey outbuilding which included a below ground boiler room.
Program: 11 Weeks
Safe and controlled demolition of former Greenwood Academy school buildings to make way for 123 new houses and apartments on the site which is now called The Point.
As a local contractor we were proud to be part of the regeneration of this area and provide our client with the resources and expertise to prepare this site for follow-on housebuilders.
Scope of work included asbestos removal, internal soft strip, and demolition of a variety of traditional type school buildings. Environmental impact was high on our clients list of requirements as the site was in a populated residential area. We engaged with stakeholders during the lead-in phase, advising them of our award, key programme dates and our proposals for reducing impact. Dust, noise and vibration were monitored throughout, state of the art suppression units controlled dust migration and deliveries and waste removal scheduled for quieter periods of the day to reduce impact on local roads users.
The client’s selection of a local specialist contractor assisted in reducing environmental impact – carbon footprint, supporting local supply chains, FORS compliant fleet, ISO:14001 contractor, sustainable demolition.
