Osborne Tower, Aston.

An example of the safe and controlled de-construction of a tower block in an urban area close to central Birmingham.

This project could have presented us with several challenges had we not conducted our due diligence through robust desk-stop studies and provided a competently trained and experienced specialist de-construction team.

Appointed in the role of Principal Contractor. The block consisted of 92 dwellings, 6 flats per floor with associated bin storage, caretakers dwelling, passenger lifts and central core stairwell. Scope of work included, asbestos removal, soft strip and controlled de-construction using ultra-high reach machines. Specialist services included the removal of pigeon guano which due to age and disrepair was present at high levels.

Due to location, community engagement was a high priority, with an occupied school, and residential dwellings adjacent. As part of our commitment to operating safely and responsibly our team organised a short presentation at the school, which gave an overview of the project, and the dangers of entering demolition sites. An environmental impact assessment was conducted during the lead-in phase and state-of-the-art dust suppression units and boom mounted suppression introduced to remove nuisance from dust. We also complied with the strict start and finish times to reduce local noise impact and provided monitoring throughout.
